Everything You Need to Know

You’ve had your session. Now what? Good aftercare protects your skin, keeps you comfortable, and helps you get the most from your course. The steps are simple.

Laser hair removal aftercare is simple, but it does matter. What you do in the first couple of days protects the treated skin and keeps your course on track. Here is everything worth knowing.

What is normal in the first 24 to 48 hours

It is completely normal for the treated area to feel a little like mild sunburn for a day or two. You might notice:

  • Slight redness around the hair follicles
  • A warm or tingling sensation
  • Mild sensitivity to touch

This usually settles within 24 to 48 hours. A cool compress helps if the area feels warm, and a fragrance-free moisturiser keeps the skin calm.

What to do

  • Keep the area cool and clean. Gentle washing with lukewarm water is fine.
  • Moisturise with a simple, fragrance-free product to support the skin barrier.
  • Use SPF 30+ daily on any treated area exposed to sunlight. This is the single most important step.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing over the area for the first day or two to avoid friction.

What to avoid in the first 24 to 48 hours

To let your skin recover properly, avoid the following straight after a session:

  • Sun exposure and sunbeds. Treated skin is more sensitive to UV.
  • Hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and intense exercise. Heat can irritate the area.
  • Fragranced products, exfoliants, retinols and acids on the treated area.
  • Picking, scratching or shaving the area until any sensitivity has fully settled.
  • Fake tan on the treated area.

Between sessions

  • You can shave between appointments if you need to. Do not wax, pluck or thread, because that removes the hair root the laser needs to target.
  • A little shedding of treated hairs over the following days and weeks is normal. That is the hair releasing, not new growth.
  • Keep up daily SPF on exposed areas throughout your course.

When to get in touch

Most reactions are mild and settle on their own. Get in touch with us if you experience anything beyond the normal mild redness, for example blistering, prolonged discomfort, or any change you are unsure about. We are always happy to take a look and reassure you.

We will also confirm your aftercare in person and answer any questions specific to your skin and the area you have had treated.

Booking your next session

Laser hair removal works best as a planned course, with sessions spaced to match your hair growth cycle. Your practitioner will recommend the right gap for you, and staying on schedule gives you the best chance of a good outcome.

A note on shedding: treated hairs often appear to keep growing for a week or two before they release. That is expected, and it is not a sign the session did not work.
